Bridesmaids

Bridesmaids are not to compete with the bride as in a beauty parade, but to complement and reflect her style. Maids have a sharp but distinct simple outline and it is a personal choice if you want a  short  length  or long.

Colours should reflect the couples personality, wedding theme and style, shocking pink for the extroverts, subtle hues for romantics. Fashion colours should be a guide only. Consider black with a coloured sash for an elegant theme, Subtle shades of pink and ivory for a vintage feel .Choose a colour and use a different hue for each dress, Or the brides all time favourite colour. Match in with the flower bouquets and overall wedding colour theme

Avoid giving the maids a body conscious image; no one likes to stand in a row for people to judge who looks the best in that style of dress!  The dresses don’t have to be exactly the same; it’s unlikely the girls will be similar shapes and height so consider the same fabric with different neckline or bodice. Be sure to have all the hemlines matching, whether above the knee, on the knee or longer, it makes for a better photo image . it’s ok to divide the length between an age group, say three under 12yr  have a shorter version of the three  20 something’s!

Try to get a few images and ideas together before asking the bridesmaids. It’s always harder to leave the discussion open to all. Limit the choices so you get more of a say in the dresses, and save the conflict. Persuade the maids to pay for their own dress by choosing a design that can be worn again and again out for dinner, at the races or drinks with friends.
